On Saturday, November 23, 2024, in the community of Obalende, Ikoyi, Lagos, children played at the school grounds, families gathered, and a group of committed professionals got their sleeves up to provide quality healthcare to those who needed it the most. This Free Medical Outreach Campaign, which was a meaningful partnership between Dr. Derin Phillips and the Caise Foundation.

This program served as a ray of hope during a period when many families are struggling financially, dealing with growing medical expenses, and just trying to make ends meet. This was devoted to helping the underprivileged and providing vital health services to children in the community to lessen the burden of medical expenses.

Over 300 children were provided with free medical services, including general check-ups, malaria and typhoid tests, HIV screenings, and more. For many families, these services offered access to care they wouldn’t otherwise have had.

The success of the Free Medical Campaign was driven by a collective effort, featuring an impressive lineup of speakers, partners, and supporters who brought their expertise and passion to the day:

  • Dr. Oluwatoni Adeyemi, SSA Health, gave a motivational speech about the significance of community-based healthcare programs.
  • A representative from The Happiness Center Lagos, an alternative and holistic health service, emphasized the role of wellness in community development.
  • Dr. Renner, a Consultant Pedestrian at Isolo General, known widely as @thenoisynaijapediatrician, lent his voice and influence to encourage better healthcare practices for children.
  • Mrs. Xerona Duke Phillips, wife of Dr. Derin Phillips, offered her unwavering support and commitment to the cause.
  • The medical team, care workers and volunteers from the Derin Phillips team.
  • Local leaders like Ward B Chairman Kunle Oyekan and key representatives of the Lagos State Government, including SSA New Media Jubril Gawat and SSA Tertiary Education Adeola Adewunmi, brought government backing to the initiative.

These leaders and speakers did more than simply show up; they embodied the spirit of service, showing how collaborative efforts can bring tangible solutions to the challenges faced by underserved communities. Everyone played a vital role in ensuring the day was something more than a mere gathering but a movement toward better health outcomes for underserved communities.

The joy and relief on the faces of parents and children alike were a vivid reminder of the importance of such initiatives. Parents who arrived with concerns for their children’s health left knowing they had access to the care their families needed.

One parent shared, “I’ve been worried about my son’s health, but today, I finally got answers. I’m so grateful for what they’ve done here.”

This outreach would not be the last as it’s part of a larger vision shared by Dr. Derin Phillips and the Caise Foundation to address the pressing healthcare needs in our society.
